Introduction

The Socio-Economic Disadvantage Group (SEDG) Cell at KLE Technological University is established to provide support and assistance to students from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds. The initiative aligns with the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines to ensure that students from marginalized communities receive equal opportunities in education and personal development.

Objectives

The primary objectives of the SEDG Cell include:

  • Providing Academic Support – Offering remedial and bridge courses to help students overcome academic challenges.
  • Financial Assistance & Scholarships – Assisting students in availing scholarships, fee concessions, and other financial aid opportunities.
  • Skill Development Programs – Organizing training sessions, career counseling, and employability enhancement initiatives.
  • Creating Awareness – Conducting workshops and seminars on government schemes, scholarships, and rights of disadvantaged groups.
  • Counseling & Guidance – Providing mentorship and psychological support to students facing socio-economic difficulties.

Key Functions & Initiatives

  • Identification of Beneficiaries – Assessing students' socio-economic backgrounds to offer necessary support.
  • Capacity-Building Programs – Conducting soft skills training, communication enhancement workshops, and IT literacy programs.
  • Internship & Placement Support – Collaborating with the placement cell to create employment opportunities for disadvantaged students.
  • Grievance Redressal Mechanism – Addressing issues faced by students due to economic hardships or social discrimination.

Eligibility & Beneficiary Groups

The SEDG Cell extends its support to:

  • Students from economically weaker sections (EWS).
  • Students belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC).
  • First-generation learners.
  • Students from minority communities.
  • Differently-abled students needing financial assistance.
